Eyelash extensions have become one of the most popular procedures among women and men of all age groups. The process of applying semipermanent eyelash extensions may take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours for the skilled technician, and about 5 hours for the beginner.
Despite such a long time, more and more new client appear every day to get thicker, darker, longer looking lashes that will last next 3-4 weeks.
With such demand, it is only natural that question of how to become a certified lash tech in Canada is brought up quite often. At the Lash Store Pro we have a Certified Eyelash Extension Trainer and technician, who will be helping us to answer related questions.
Mariia Kotova - the owner of Lash Store Pro, London Lash UK and InLei Italy certified trainer has been in the eyelash extension industry since 2014. She has completed over 20 training during her career and has successfully certified over 50 students over the last two years.
How to Become a Lash Tech in Ontario, Canada?
MK: Well, the answer to the question how to become a lash extension tech in Ontario is simple: To become an eyelash technician, you have to complete an eyelash extension course preferably with the local establishment that has all the necessary credentials.
If you want to get certified in Ontario, Canada, you have to look for an academy or a trainer with the academy, who can give you a certification upon completion. My personal suggestion is to get in touch with the training establishment and ask them a question “How to become an eyelash technician”. Upon their answer you will feel how seriously the academy or trainer is.
Now, you should keep in mind that a certificate is not a licence and completion of the eyelash extension course just gives you knowledge and (hopefully) the skill of working as an eyelash tech.
Also remember that questions “How to become an eyelash tech” and “How to become an eyelash artist” are two different questions. The skill you get with a little practice and after completion of the course. An artist you become after hard working days and long spent hours, when the skill improves to the extent that you can create a perfect lash set without asking yourself which eyelash row you are working with.
How Long Does It Take To Become a Certified Lash Technician?
If you decide to go ahead, you are probably wondering how long does it take to become a lash tech and how to get your lash certification.
MK: I cannot say for all the courses and trainers, but from my own experience and from the lash technician certification courses that we teach at Lash Store Pro, I can say that the learning process is relatively short.
You are asking how to become certified lash tech? You need to complete the course. We divide them to 2 main categories:
- Foundation eyelash extension course (aka training for beginners)
- Advanced volume lash training (for people with previous knowledge).
The beginners course is only 2 days, but in order to get Certificate we require our students to submit case studies. Only after successful submission of 5 completed sets, students get their Certification accredited by London Lash Pro UK.
The course program is divided into 2 days that are completed with a trainer at The Lash Pro studio in Toronto. First day is dedicated to theory, the second day is practice on models. And the last part of case studies is completed by students at home at their own pace.
Theory block covers all information needed for complete understanding of human eyelashes:
- how to safely work with clients?
- how to safely apply eyelash extensions?
- how to prevent allergies and irritations?
- what products should be used during the procedure?
- difference between lash extensions, liquids, glues etc.;
- human facial features and how to create a perfect lash style
- eyelash extension mapping and more.
Our course also includes an eyelash extension kit with all the necessary lash extension supplies needed to start a successful career. You can also find lash lift supplies in our online store.
How to Become a Licensed Lash Tech in Toronto, Ontario?
As we mentioned before, a licence and certificate are 2 totally different documents. One certifies the completion of a lash tech course, second gives a right to perform the type of activity.
We have asked Mariia - What License is needed for eyelash extensions?
MK: In Toronto, Ontario eyelash extensions fall under the category of personal care services, so in order to operate a lash extension studio, you will need to apply for a business license for personal care settings. That involves supplying a list of documents, including insurance documents and criminal record check to the governing institution and completion of the health inspection in the setting.
How to get certified in eyelash extensions in Toronto?
MK: Complete the course, submit your case studies and come for an official part where our trainers at Lash Pro Studio will give an official certificate of the course completion.
By the way, when completing case studies, you will receive feedback on what to improve and most importantly how to improve.
However, if you are a beginner, or should I say thing on becoming a beginner lash artist.
You should not be asking yourself How do i become a certified lash technician? Or How to get certified in Lash Extensions? Instead ask yourself if you can do the job. Working long hours dividing small and thin eyelashes to glue extensions on every single one of them is hard and demanding work.
Before spending money on the course, please evaluate your ambition and be fair and true to yourself.
Once you complete the studies and get certified in eyelash extensions, apply to work in one of the salons. Thankfully there are a lot of different settings that offer eyelash extension services and demand for good artists is very high. Of course to become professional everyone needs to get some practice first, it is definitely not enough to become certified in eyelash extensions to call yourself an artist. But working in a salon will definitely help you to get more clients and hence more practice, plus having support from your peers is always very encouraging.
